Tuskers – 170-7 in 36.1 overs (Brian Chari 61, Luke Jongwe 39*, Brian Mudzinganyama 24; Victor Nyauchi 3/35, Tendai Chatara 1/25, Tinashe Muchawaya 1/29)

Mountaineers – 160-6 in 28.2 overs (Nick Welch 63*, Mathew Welch 36, Joylord Gumbie 19; Ernest Masuku 2/30, Nkosana Mpofu 1/18, Brian Mudzinganyama 1/25)

Mountaineers won by four wickets (Duckworth-Lewis method)

Nick Welch continued his fine batting form with an innings of 63 not out to lead Mountaineers to a four-wicket victory over Tuskers in the Pro50 Championship at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Wednesday.

Rain interfered with the match and Tuskers, batting first, scored 170 for seven wickets in 36.1 overs before their innings was cut short.

Brian Mudzinganyama with 24 and Luke Jongwe, 39 not out, played well after that, but Mountaineers looked to have the upper hand.

The rain meant that Mountaineers were set to score 160 to win from 29 overs.

Nick Welch joined his brother Mathew Welch at 52 for two after 13 overs, and quickly dominated the bowling.

After Mathew went he had little support, and almost single-handedly hit Mountaineers to victory with four balls in hand, his unbeaten 63 coming off only 39 balls, with three sixes and four fours.

Southern Rocks – 262-8 in 48 overs (Roy Kaia 91, Ryan Higgins 72, Tafadzwa Tsiga 24; Brad Evans 2/46, Brandon Mavuta 1/41, Hendricks Macheke 1/47)

Rhinos – 235-6 in 44 overs (Takudzwanashe Kaitano 59, Antum Naqvi 56, Prince Masvaure 47; Dylan Hondo 2/41, Roy Kaia 2/44, Matthew Campbell 1/6)

Rhinos won by six runs (Duckworth-Lewis method)

Contrasting fifties from Antum Naqvi and Takudzwanashe Kaitano helped Rhinos beat Southern Rocks by six runs by the Duckworth-Lewis calculation in their Pro50 Championship match at Kwekwe Sports Club on Wednesday.

Rocks, batting first, lost three wickets for 47 before Ryan Higgins, with 72 off 81 balls, and Roy Kaia, with 91 off 120 balls, put together a partnership that brought them 124 runs at about six an over.

This earned Rocks a score of 262 for eight wickets.

Rhinos owed much to Prince Masvaure whose 47 opening the innings paved the way for the two fifty-makers.

While Kaitano played steadily to hold the innings together and make 59 off 118 balls, Naqvi attacked successfully to make his 56 off only 49 deliveries.

Rain again interfered, but their total of 235 for six wickets off 44 overs was sufficient to give them a narrow victory by the Duckworth-Lewis method.
